Print books and online books: an introduction

Prescribed and recommended books: Academic Reserves/ Short loans

Copies of prescribed and recommended books are often kept in the Academic Reserves/ Short Loans section of the libraries. Academic Reserves/ Short Loans materials may not be taken out of the library during the day but may be borrowed overnight or for weekends.

Academic Reserves / Short Loans

The library catalogue indicates what books have been placed in Short Loans. Short Loans material cannot be removed from the library during the day- the day is divided into one-hour slot to allow as many users as possible to have access. Items can be borrowed overnight or for weekends.

You must produce your student card to be able to borrow items.

Standards

General book Stock

The general book stock is arranged on the open shelves in number order; Social problem and Social Services is mostly within the 360, 361, 362 and 363 number ranges, Human physiology 612, Promotion of health 613, Diseases 616, and Food Technology 664. Undergraduates may borrow 5 items for two-week period, Post graduates may borrow 10 items for 3 months’ period and staff may borrow 15 items for 6 months’ period. Books may be renewed if not requested by another borrower.

The library catalogue (iLink) on the Library’s website may be used to track the location and availability of an item.

E-books

Online books are available via the MUT library. The I Link catalogue will provide the URL where online access is available. The online books make it possible for you to work on assignments, project and just catch up on reading without coming into the library.

What if a book is not available at MUT?

MUT Library offers an interlibrary loan (ILL) facility through which books can be borrowed from other libraries in the country if available. Most times there is no charge for borrowing a book. Copies of journal articles may also be requested and if it cannot be scanned and emailed there is a fee for this. This service is for post graduate students and staff members. You can access this facility through the Subject Librarians.
